style smarts.

i leave for school in 4 days (ahh where did summer go?!) & i'm slowly starting to pack everything up. one of my favorite parts of going back to school is back to school shopping. as a kid, nothing made me more excited than picking out new notebooks & folders covered in lisa frank, but now bright colors & cute sayings is all i need to get that schoolgirl giddiness back! here are some of picks for looking stylish in class.

love these chic notebooks from katespaperie.com. so many colors to choose from, & i love the idea of having these stacked up on a crisp white desk.

my favorite school bag from longchamp is the perfect bag to go from class to play. large enough to fit your laptop & books, with room still for your wallet & a change of clothes, this bag is a chic update to a boring backpack.
these pencils from designdarling.com are called #thingsthatmakeushappy & i couldn't agree more. writing notes seems like so much more fun when you get to pencils like these!
here's an instagram of my latest back to school purchase! this lilly pulitzer agenda is the best way to stay  organized & is chic & bright to help cheer you up in a boring class!

moments captured.

the lack of posts the last few days is because i've been playing tourist around my own hometown! we spent time as a family the last few days & went around to little beach towns around traverse city like glen arbor & frankfort. it's been nice to relax & enjoy time as a family before i leave for school in one week! they may drive me crazy sometimes, but i'm going to miss days like these.
a papercut isn't so bad with a sequined band-aid & collegiate flags covered the ceilings while out to lunch.
sisterly love.
homemade chocolates & a lucky fortune.
view from the frankfort pier & brightly colored candle sticks.

the best family a girl could ask for.

a great combination.

today, i finally had a day off & the weather felt like fall, so of course i had to bake. i had been eyeing this recipe for self-frosting nutella cupcakes for awhile, & i'm so glad i made them. a combination of two of my favorite sweets, nutella & cupcakes, & super easy. paired with a cold glass of milk & served warm, they may be my new favorite dessert to make.

ingredients.
mix.
spoon.
stir & bake.
eat & enjoy!

lost in wonderland.

i've been collecting all my vogue magazines for years now, but there are certain editorials that will always stand out in my mind & continue to bring inspiration. i was flipping through the december 2003 issue when i came across one of my favorite shoots of all time. this "alice in wonderland" shoot was photographed by annie leibovitz & stars natalia vodianova as alice & every designer from karl lagerfeld to donatella versace as the characters of wonderland. a true fashion fairy-tale.

cocktails, anyone?

like i've said before, its the little things in life that make me happy. one of those things would be when you realize you accidentally matched your cocktail to your outfit (like i did this weekend, picture above). it got me thinking how fun & chic it would be to plan your party drink with your party outfit. here's some picks for some fun cocktails & perfectly matched attire. cheers!

sip on this tiffany-blue cocktail at a summer bridal shower or a girls night at home in this light & airy dress from dorothy perkins, perfect for the last few weeks of summer.
like this classic dress with a twist from mod cloth, the classic mojito takes a twist as well by making it into a blueberry lavender mojito

simple & sweet describe this summery look. a peach colored dress from theoutnet.com is the perfect transition dress from work to night, & this peach collins cocktail is an easy drink to make to unwind after a long day.
titled "the birthday girl cocktail," nothing screams 21st birthday more than serving a cocktail rimmed in sprinkles & a sparkly gold dress from topshop.

film favorites.

this week in traverse city is the eighth annual film festival. new films & documentaries are played around local venues in downtown tc, & old favorites are played free on a big, inflatable screen in front of the water. i thought i would share some of my favorite films of all time to celebrate film fest week.

sound of music.
i remember my sister & i always playing this for long car rides to our grandparents house. its the classic musical that i always seem to get sucked into every time its on television.

the parent trap.
my biggest inner debate as a kid was, if i had the choice, would i want to live the life of hallie or annie? the perfect lives of living with your fashion designer mother in london or on a vineyard in napa with your dad? luckily, this movie is packed with lots of laughs & ends up in love.

grease.
truly the first musical i fell in love (at age 5 to be exact!) & it is still my all time favorite. if only we could sing our way through life...

father of the bride.
i believe this is where my love for all thing weddings evolved from. summers with my cousins & sister were spent watching this over & over again. i love how this movie can make you laugh hysterically & then turn you into a mess of happy tears. all around perfection.

beethoven.
my parents brought me to this in the theaters when i was one year old, & from then on out, i was obsessed with dogs, mostly st. bernards. for christmas, i got a beethoven & missy stuffed animals & carried them everywhere i went (we also named our dog years later missy too!). i still hope someday i'll get a st. bernard of my own too.

the holiday.
a perfect love story with the backgrounds of the english country side & los angeles to obsess over. but nothing tops jude law as a loving, funny & overly adorable father who makes me weak at the knees every time.

rent.
even though i had been a huge fan of musicals, but when i saw "rent," everything changed. broadway obsessed i became & the messages & emotions behind the music are the reason i will never get enough.
